I have an XT clone with a high density floppy controller (generic, 360K & 1.44M drives) which works fine. Then I bought an ST250R hard drive and a Western Digital WD1004-27X controller card to upgrade. When I try to low-level format, it seems to work but at the end the message 'Nothing Done. Exiting' appears and returns me to A> prompt. FDISK won't recognize the drive and if I try any diagnostic software that won't work either .. seek fails. I have sent back the controller card, the hard drive (twice) and the motherboard! Everyone says that there stuff is OK and to talk to the other guy. The motherboard dealer said there might be an address conflict using a high density controller in an XT and that I should select a different address. The controller has 4 settings: controller: 320-323 324-327 328-32B 32C-32F bios: C8000-C9FFF CA000-CBFFF CC000-CDFFF CE000-CFFFF but trying these produced no fruit. (I can't change the address arbitrarily though, right?) I've tried using IRQ2 and IRQ5 (I believe that one is AT related and the other XT, but don't remember which or how and can't find the info anywhere.) I don't do this for a living (obviously!) but I am at the end of resources. Help Please!?
