I need some sort of a data storage system for some engineering research I'm doing. Since the hard disk we are storing on has 20M partitions, the tape doesn't need to store more than that. However, there will be 100 or more of these 20M dumps, with from 1 to 5 per day. It will be attached to a portable 386 with a 1.44M and a 1.2M drive. There isn't room inside the case for anything more than a family of cockroaches, so it should be an external drive. What types of tape drives would be best suited to this application, and which companies make the most reliable drives? Price is a consideration, but quality and reliability is a stronger factor, since we will be using this in the field (i.e. on top of a dam). Mail replies would be appreciated.
