[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Ethernet Cards & Interrupts

david@hobbes.catt.ncsu.edu (David Chappell) (01/30/91)

I am planning to buy an Ethernet card but need to be wary of interrupts.
Do the Western Digital Ethercard PLUS and the 3Com Etherlink II cards
support hardware interrupts beyond 8? The hardware setup I now have uses
all interrupts up to 8, and I need W.D. or 3Com for software compatability.
Also, what are the 3Com Etherlink/A and W.D. Ethercard PLUS/A cards? I think
they are for MicroChannel, but I'm not certain.
Thanks for any help. Please send replies via e-mail.

You might be able to use a wd8013E. As a general rule, only 16-bit boards
use interrupts past 7. The wd8013E is software compatible with the wd8003e,
except that you don't get 16-bit speed unless your software specifically
accesses it.

You're right.
