[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Seiko 1440 Monitor Questions

jerry@polygen.uucp (Jerry Sheckel) (01/30/91)

Hello. I'm interested in the Seiko 1440 monitor. I have a couple of
questions about it.

-- What is the dot pitch? One dealer says 28, another says 25.
-- Does it handle normal 800x600 non-interlaced resolution?
-- What would be a good price to pay for one?

I would also appreciate comments from anyone who owns/uses one of these.
Especially important to me are sharpness, color convergence, and screen
edges that are straight on the left and right. Finally, is 1024x768
interlaced mode acceptable, or is it too annoying to use for Windows?

I have been using the 1440 for 7 months, and I love it. I have yet to see
a better picture on any 14" monitor. 800x600 is non-interlaced. There is
barely noticible flicker in 1024x768 under Windows with my ATI card which
might disturb some people, but it doesn't bother me. That mode is GREAT for
Word... The only reason I don't use it is that text in DOS windows is too
small for my liking.

The color purity is the best I've seen on ANY monitor - simply beautiful.
This thing beats the NEC-3D hands down.

The specs:

Dot pitch: .26mm
Sony Trinitron tube (the one with the mask support wire)
Resolution: 800x600 non-interlaced, 1024x768 interlaced.

NOTE: This monitor has no support for digital input. You cannot hook it up
to an EGA card. EGA resolution modes from a VGA are fine.

My monitor makes a small squeak when re-synching modes. I don't know if this
is normal.

Price: After much looking (it's hard to find) I finally got it for $529 from
Treasure Chest in Georgia. Look in Computer Shopper. Average price
	is about $600
