[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] HD Specifications

fritsch@picasso.cs.unc.edu (Dan Fritsch) (02/03/91)

I have a BIOS that does not include an option for user
definable drive types. Furthermore, I have found that a
BIOS replacement is not available (I've checked thouroughly).

I would like to find an 80 to 120 MB IDE drive that exactly
fits one of the specifications in my drive table (cyls, heads,
sectors). I used to have a spec sheet released by Western
Digital, but I have misplaced it. Does anyone have such a list?

Also, I have heard that one does not need to exactly match the
drive table specs for IDE drives. However, I found that a
Quantum Pro/AT 40 MB drive would not work, no matter what I
used in the BIOS setup. Could someone shed some light on this?

BTW, I don't want to use Disk Manager or similar products. If
you have an 80 to 120 MB drive, could you email me the specs?

THANKS!
