This is a question from a friend without net access:
I would like to know more about the DFI HS3000+ and the MARS 400dpi
scanners. Which one is better? If anybody has experience with either
of those, please reply.
Please email replies, as I do not usually read this newsgroup. Thank
you.

Hi Derek, i also use the scanman plus and really like it.I don't use any ocr software but I just recieved an excellent program from logitec called ansel.Which is a 256 grayscale image editor program(registered owners of scanman plus can get it for $29 us)you can adjust the light and darkness of an image and how sharp or smooth it is,you can also edit out flaws in the image quality.Anyway I'll have to go now,let me know how you get on with the ocr software as that sounds interesting. bye. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert Bell uunet!van_bc!rsoft!mindlink!a1076 Benndorf-Verster a1076@mindlink.uucp Vancouver Canada voice 604-853-5870 -------------------------------------------------------------------

in respose to a posting of mine regarding the logitech scan man plus:

I picked up ScanManPlus AND the CatchWord OCR software in a package
for $199US in December at Electronics Boutique, a store in a mall in
Kingston MA. Catchword is pretty good sometimes, if the text is clear
(e.g., a typeset book) but not very good on messy texts (e.g.,
newspaper). It seems to have some bugs -- it lets you change a
character model (e.g., it lets you look at everything it thought was
an "S", and you can tell it "No that one is a "5"") but it gets very
stubborn about "1", "l", and "I" -- even after you tell it "That's a
"1"" it keeps it as an "I".
I bought mine on an impulse, but it did save me some time keying in a
program from a textbook.
Please let me know if you hear of any other (cheap) compatible OCR
software. Thanks.
