[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Using ST02 /01 with three floppy's

ccastdf@prism.gatech.EDU (Dave) (02/12/91)

I have an ST02 controller with a ST296N harddrive and two floppys. I want to
get a tape drive, and the cheapest ones hook up as a floppy. If I buy a
ST01 (SCSI Controller wo/ floppys) and a three floppy controller, will
everything work alright?

Additions, questions, comments, etc, please reply by email.

Confused and tired of fastback.

WAIT!!!!!!!

What type of tape drive are you considering? The two models from Colorado
Memory systems are among the best and cheapest around!!!!!! Here's Why:

    *	They offer two models. A 40/60MB that can be had for $250 and
an 80/120MB model that can be had for $350. Note: capacities
with compression are about 42% higher.

    *	Most of the good backup programs support these drives directly.

    *	Both models (the 40MB and 80MB) will work off of a floppy drive
controller. They will work on a 2 (two) floppy controller that
already has 2 floppies attached! I repeat. 2 Floppies and 1
tape drive on a 2 (two) floppy drive controller! The drives
make use of a special 1A 2B floppy cable to work this magic.
They can share the B drive designation with a floppy because
they don't use the same lines on the cable.

I have this setup at home! It works! No problems! No drivers!
No wasted slots! No wasted Money! No extra hardware!!!!

Don't Waste Your Money! Buy one of these drives! They are cheaper, offer
the same level of performance, WITHOUT extra hardware or floppy drive
controllers or software drivers!!!!

THERE IS NO CHOICE OTHER THAN THESE TWO! Unless of course you are
commited to buying extra hardware, giving up an extra slot, screwing
around with stupid software drivers.

An associate made this mistake and ended up spending $60 more than he had to.
Mail me if you have questions. I don't want anyone else to make this
mistake.
