[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Interested in 4mm tape experiences / info

granroth@iowasp.physics.uiowa.edu (Larry Granroth) (02/18/91)

Is anyone out there running a DDS DAT 4mm helical scan tape off a SCSI
controller on an ISA PC? If so, I'd be interested in knowing what
type of controller and drive you're using and what problems you may
have encountered. What vendor did you purchase from? Is low level
read/write source code available? Does the controller get along with
standard SCSI disk drives as well? Is it a 16-bit controller?
What are the sustained transfer rate specs?

Vendors: Feel free to send info and (educational) price quotes.
(Note that we're currently getting WangDAT drives for $1400, so you
might want to quote controllers separately.)
