I have a CompuAdd 286 that is having problems retaining its setup information in CMOS. I have tried replacing the batteries but the problem persists. This problem appeared within a day of adding a second serial port, which works correctly. Typically, CMOS loses its setup information about once every two days now, always after an overnight power-down. Also, the real-time clock is losing a few minutes each hour. Assuming that the batteries truly are not to blame, what is likely to cause these problems? My friendly CompuAdd salesman guesses that the motherboard should be replaced. This seems a little drastic to me. There is no exotic hardware inside the machine (modem, serial port, 20MB hard drive). If you have any thoughts on this, please respond by email and I will summarize any responses of general interest to the net. Thanks to all. Jim Mower jem97@gpsun.albany.edu 518-442-4779
