[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] wrong vsetup for Gateway CS 1024?

hp0p+@andrew.cmu.edu (Hokkun Pang) (02/24/91)

I used set to my video card to Gateway CS 1024 (same as Tatung 1496x, interlacedat 1024x768) and there's a quite an amount of flickering on the screen. When
running Window, you can clearly see the icons oscillating left and right. Out
of curiosity, I set my video card to Sony 1304 (non-interlaced at 1024x768) and
noticed that the flickerings reduced significantly, the icons are not more like
glued to the screen, no more oscillations! Did Gateway screw up when they're
programming the video setup program or what? Now, my next question is naturally
concerning the health of the monitor. Will this do any harm to my monitor?
My monitor's vertical scanning frequency is 45 to 90 and horizontal 30 to 37,
with a dot pitch of 0.28. Also, what are the vertical and horizontal scanning
frequencies of the Sony? Lastly, I hope that I'm not experiencing some kind
of placebo effect. :-) Off course, I shouldn't try to use 1024x768 mode too!!
