[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Screwed up EGA text on STB Powergraph VGA

mfontana@eniac.seas.upenn.edu (Mark A Fontana) (02/25/91)

I've got a problem with my STB Powergraph VGA card... I was working on
a foreign-language-oriented program that loads custom fonts, and I made
a couple incorrect calls to int 10h before I got the program to work.
Well, it seems that I've somehow overwritten the onboard EGA font with
a bunch of garbage. Switching to 80x25 EGA text mode just makes a mess,
but the 43 and 50 line screens look fine. All VGA text modes work okay
too. I really don't need the EGA mode for much, but I'd like to put
it back to normal. Can anyone tell me exactly what happened, and what I
should do to correct this? My instincts tell me to simply save the
data from a friend's graphics card to a file, then load it into mine.
Would the other card have to be a Powergraph as well, or is the data
in the same location for all manufacturers?

For you programmers, what are the correct calls to int 10h to restore
the default ROM 80x25 font on a 1) VGA adaptor, 2) EGA adaptor?

Thanks!

- Mark
