[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] PS/2 Model 50 Harddisk questions

jumper@garfield.catt.ncsu.edu (Michael Lanham) (02/26/91)

Hi,

I just recently bought and found I cannot use a HD from a PS/2 50. The
drive is suppossedly 20 MB but I still have several questions since I put
the drive up forsale and need to answer questions of those inquiring to buy
the drive.

QUESTIONS:
1) The drive is 3.5 HH but appears to have the controller card built onto the
drive package on a card mounted between the drive and the mounting rails. It
is taller than the drive in my model 30 and but probably still considered HH.
Is this the controller ?

2) The drive connectors are non-standard from any of the HDs that i have seen.
There is no separate power cable. The connector is just 25 copper(?) contacts
on each side of the board with the last two separated from the others by a
split in the board. Is this connector standard to IBM? I have a different
connector on the HD on my PS/2 30 so I do not know.

3) Is this drive a MFM, RLL, or what? I cannot hook it to my machine so I
cannot find out. The Part Number on it is 90X6806 TYPE 30. The serial(?)
number on the front of the drive is N000776706. Does this help anybody
identify the type of drive I have?

I need the answers to these questions since I am putting the drive back up
forsale for the $50 I bought it for plus $7 in S&H and I need to answer the
questions of people asking me.
