[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Segate 1144A and Phoenix BIOS

daneman@czech.sw.mcc.com (Michael Daneman) (02/27/91)

I just bought Segate 1144A 125Mb IDE drive. However the person from
whom I bought the IDE controller told me that I will not be able to
get the full 125Mb out the drive if I have Phoenix BIOS (which I do)
because apparently Phoenix does not support this drive and most I
could get out it is 110Mb. Is this true? I thought that IDE drives
were more or less self contained and didn't rely on BIOS to tell them
how many tracks they're supposed to have.

I have not installed the drive yet so I don't know if what I was told
is true or not. I guess my question is should I run to the store and
swap my BIOS for AMI or can I get by with Phoenix?

Thanks
