I remember that there was a discussion about the various features, speeds, drivers, bugs, etc., of Super-VGA cards a short time ago. At the time, I was not interested, since I had an STB PowerGraph VGA with 1M and thought I was satisfied with it (or at least stuck with it *:^). Now, however, I have an opportunity to "trade it in" for full credit (what I paid for it) for a different card of my choosing. I would like to get a VERY fast card, possibly with a graphics co-processor, but I'm not sure what's out there. I've heard of the Hercules Graphics Station cards - they seem to be priced in the right range, but I don't know what they would offer me. I am currently running Windows 3.0 on my 386/25 clone, primarily for word processing/desktop publishing/graphics design/spreadsheet work, etc. I will eventually be putting the machine up under UNIX and would like whatever board I choose to be compatible with X-Windows (although that is not an absolute requirement). I currently have a Packard Bell PB8510SV TriSync monitor, so any board I get MUST work with interlaced monitors (the STB has some flicker in 1024x768 modes - not unbearable, but there - which is one reason why I'm thinking of replacing it). I looked at a Sigma board the other day and noticed that the "ergonomic" refresh rates it offered only occured in the 800x600 modes. Is this normal? I'd like to get a high refresh rate in 1024x768 to eliminate the flicker - is it available? Anyway, if someone can summarize the previous discussion, or, if someone has archived it and can email it to me, I'd be extremely grateful. I DO read both of these newsgroups regularly, so posting would be fine, too (isn't that refreshing - I actually READ the groups I post to *:^).
