I'm having trouble with my old (5 years) PC-36 controller. It seems that there is some kind of incompatibility between it and new 386 machines ... so they (Wangtek rep) told me I have to change it for a newer one (a 30850-008 for about $230), though some time ago somebody told me (sorry, I don't remember who) that a firmware update can solve that problem. This controller has worked fine on AT's and on a Wyse-386 (16Mz) but is refusing to work now on an Everex step 20. (It reads tapes but does not write them ok, some problem with the file-mark writing phase...) Anyone with such an experience ? Any cheaper QIC-36 controllers out there ? -- Carlos G. I ran one of those on a 486-25 without problems, but I believe they dislike anything faster than 8MHz bus, 1w/s. -- bill davidsen - davidsen@sixhub.uucp (uunet!crdgw1!sixhub!davidsen) sysop *IX BBS and Public Access UNIX moderator of comp.binaries.ibm.pc and 80386 mailing list "Stupidity, like virtue, is its own reward" -me
