I saw an article in PC SOURCES about a new chip (expected to cost ~ $10) which effectively gives resolutions of 2048x1536 by approx 700000 colors on a standard VGA monitor. Does anybody have any more complete information regarding this new chip? For example, because this chip is a pin for pin replacement for D/A converters already present on most VGA boards, is this a chip that can be used on ANY VGA card? Can you just pull out your old DAC chip and replace it w/ this new one, or does a board have to be designed around this chip in order to take advantage of this power? If you want to read the article for yourself, see page 44 of the March Issue of PC Sources. (The chip appears to mainly be used for eliminating the jaggies through anti- aliasing, among other techniques.)
