[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Would like to compile thoughts of various clone makers

jdb@reef.cis.ufl.edu (Brian K. W. Hook) (03/05/91)

I have been reading this group for a while and have begun noticing that the
same questions about certain vendors are being written OVER and OVER and
OVER. Thus, to save us some hassle, I would like anyone to send me their
thoughts on the following products VIA EMAIL so that I can send a
compilation of thoughts (dated) to people asking questions:

1. Northgate <-- Hi interest topics
2. Gateway 2000 <--
3. Zeos <--
4. Touche
5. Dell <--
6. Ares
7. EPS
8. Insight
9. Swan <--
10. ANY OTHERS YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH
11. Compuadd

Please list all pertinent information, including:

quality of salespeople and tech representatives
service
price
performance
reliability
compatibility

Also, people who have dealt with mail order vendors successfully, such as
Lucky Computers, Bulldog, USA-Flex, etc.

I wouldn't mind compiling lists on the following products also:

Micronics, Mylex, AMI, Orchid, Calibre, etc. motherboards
Tseng, Trident, Paradise, ATI, Video-7 cards
Assorted hard disk controllers (ESDI and SCSI only please)
Assorted tape back ups (CMS, Irwin, Tallgrass, etc.)
Hard drives (any and all, esp. ESDI, SCSI, and IDE -- Conner, Seagate,
Kalok, Rodime, HP, etc.)
Monitors (NEC, Nanao, Sony and Seiko, Mag Computronics, Relisys, etc.)

I will keep and summarize all replies in my home directory and mail as
people request it on the net and hopefully save us a LOT of hassle.

Brian

PS Remember E-MAIL REPLIES ONLY WILL BE COMPILED!!!!!

I've already done this. The file `products' as described in the
monthly Frequently Asked Questions file contains assorted comments and
questions posted to comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc and comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware
regarding various vendors of IBM PC clone computers. It can be ftp'd
as math.princeton.edu:pub/rjc/csip/products.Z, or can be obtained
via email as described in the Frequently Asked Questions file.
