[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] AMI BIOS on the GA-386ES - 'help?'

xtasc@levels.sait.edu.au (03/12/91)

Has anyone ever come across the AMI BIOS that supports XCMOS setup as well
as CMOS. I have this on a machine I just purchased, a GA-386ES, and am
having trouble setting up all the waitstates on the DMA and AT bus, to the
point where the floppy drives are getting general errors (and i thought the
mac was vague in error reporting :-), but they are on the same card as the
HD's which work fine, IDE or something.

The BIOS also lets you run different waitstates on different ram banks,
has anyone ever played with this ?

Finally, the BIOS has "For Evaluation Only" :-| on one of the warning screens
as you go into XCMOS setup.
Does anyone know if a "release" version was released for the ELITE chipset ?

This was one of the few motherboards ive seen that are 33 Meg 386's, with
8/16 and a 32 bit slot, with 64 or 128 k cache .... ?? from taiwan of course.
I have 4mb of 80ns at 1ws and 4mb of 100ns at 2ws

Any help before the men in the white gowns with my new jacket arrive here to
take me away ??

PLS Reply direct, I'll post a summary of replies to the net shortly ..

thanks in advance,

Rob
