I have recently encountered the "Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk and Press Enter" error. I originally assumed that the hard disk must be failing. However, after replacing the hard disk and controller, I find that the error is still appearing. I have noticed, since replacing the hard drive and controller, that the error only appears after soft booting. The system seems to be fine after a cold boot. Since noticing this, I have checked the power supply connectors voltage reading with a multimeter. The red wire reads 5v and the yellow reads 12v. They fluctuate a 10th of a volt higher than 5v and 12v during a soft boot. Does anyone have a suggestion as to my next step ? I am guessing that there must be a problem with the motherboard. Am I way off ? Problem: Error on Soft Boot Only "Disk Boot Failure" Hardware: 386sx Motherboard, Award Bios v.3.04 1) replaced MFM Seagate hard drive with new IDE hard drive 2) removed MFM Controller, now running off built in IDE controller on motherboard. 3) checked power supply as described above. 4) ? Please, send directly to my address if you can.
