[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Funky old floppy drive

wombat@nmt.edu (Lily-Rose) (03/18/91)

I've recently inherited a funky old IBM PC proper, with a hard drive
and a very questionable floppy drive. The floppy drive seems to
read my disks okay, once I wriggle them into place, but I'm really
concerned that it's going to start eating my disks.

I recall hearing about a way to re-align floppy disk drives that
was reasonably painless, and I think that's the first thing I should
try. Can anyone give me any information, or other suggestions on
handling a disk drive that seems slightly obstructed by something?

Thanks.

I have to ask... why bother??? Floppy drives are so cheap nowdays,
why not just throw it away and buy a new one... I'm sure it will save
alot of hassles.

Greetings. Don't throw it out. I'll give you $5 plus pay
shipping if you send it to me. Why? I need a few stepping
motors... (Yeah, I know I can get them from surplus but I
already have a bunch of controller board for the ones that
	come with 360K drives...)

Send e-mail with your address and a quote for shipping. I'll
	mail a M.O. next day.

	Take care.

I would need this kind of information too. Please give a pointer.

Why buy new ones if you can get your old work? Shouldn't we avoid
throwing away working stuff?
