[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Hydra Board to run Mac on DOS

6500boo@ucsbuxa.ucsb.edu (William Bushing) (03/18/91)

Anyone out there know anything about the board from Hydra
that allows you to run MacIntosh software on a PC? If it
works, it would save me the cost of buying a Mac II to run
some MacIntosh specific software. Anyone know anything?

Thanks in advance

The Hydra system board retails at $995 and offers monochrome
(Mac Plus/SE/Classic) performance. The user also needs to
find a Mac ROM chip; although these have been frequently
bootlegged for Atari and Amiga-based Mac clones, the only
legal way to get one is to buy a Mac.

That basically brings the price up to the level of the Mac LC,
and well past the cost of a new Mac Classic (about $700).
The Hydra is also unlikely to be compatible with Apple's
system 7, so it might pay to wait awhile before ante'ing
up the $$$.

If it's any consolation, the nuBus PC boards for the Mac
are also more expensive than comparable PCs ...
