[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] monitor and video card problem

kslee@athena.mit.edu (Kenneth S. Lee) (03/16/91)

I have a VGA Wonder Card (V3, pretty old) in combination with a Seiko 1430 monitor. Supposedly, the monitor is able to do 800x600 non-interlaced, but I see a lot of flicker when I run Windows under such resolution. Am I doing something wrong, or are my hardware just not good enough?

Also, the size of the screen does not quite fill all of the monitor, ie the borders are about an inch in from the right and the top. Someone mentioned earlier that there are some "undocumented" features and commands which control the width of the screen. Can someone reprint?

Any help with the problems above are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Seiko 1430 is the same monitor I have. The 1430 has a problem
with 800x600 video modes. You may want to call seiko and try to trade
it in for the newer 1440 and 1450's. Either that or just don't use
800x600. You can get a 1024x768 video card for about $90.00. As for
the borders, I don't have this problem. If I were you I would have
reported it the first time I saw it when the warranty was still good.
