[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] installation of simms

chend@beasley.ucs.orst.edu (Donald Chen - Microbiology) (03/19/91)

I have a question about installing 1 MB SIMMS in my Dell 310.
I've bought 2 1x9 80ns SIMMS to replace the 256k SIMMS which
were part of the original equipment.

I install the two SIMMS in bank 0, in the two right hand slots.
(that is there are 4 slots with 2 recepticles in each, and I've used
the two right hand recepticles in each of the two right hand slots)
However, my machine won't boot up. I replace the 256k SIMMS and
everything seems to work.

Is there something I'm not doing right?

Also, what do I have to do in order to have extended memory on
my machine, and what is the difference from expanded memory?

Please send me email as I don't get a chance to read this
group on a regular basis.

Thanks

Don
