[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Micro Generation Comments?

ries@venice.SEDD.TRW.COM (Marc Ries) (03/17/91)

Anyone have any good/bad experiences with a company called Micro Generation,
home office in Edison, NJ, with offices in New York City and Tustin CA.?

Are taiwan motherboards a guarantee of problems?

They have a 486-33 box for $2295 with 30-day money back offer (no "restocking
fees") plus the usual 1 year parts/labor. The motherboard is a 6-layer Taiwan
unit with OPTI and NEAT chip sets and an MR (?) Bios. They were using AMI bios,
but feel that MR is a "better choice". The machine is compatible with
"everything" [8-)], including Windows 3.0, Novell, and SCO Unix (they run Novell
in Tustin and SCO in NJ). A 128K cache is included with bus speeds of
6.25, 8.33 or 12.5 MHz. Can support 4MB simms for a max of 32Mb in 8 simm
slots. Base system includes a tower case, 2 Mb ram, one floppy, 200W power
supply. Supports LIM4.0, shadow Ram and 70ns simm modules (486-33).

Thanks for a prompt response!

Micro Generation isn't a bad company. But it's really not a great company.
The systems don't come with reliable parts all the time. Make sure they
have a "no questions asked return policy" to be safe.

Your Bios could be the Microid bios. But I'm not certain they would use
this since Microid is a new bios that just was released not to long ago.
And the only other vendors that use it are PC Brand. Microid is VERY
compatible.

You may be disappointed in it. But, what system is perfect. Try to avoid
the smaller tower case and ask for a taller one. It will run cooler.
