[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] adding XT MFM controller to 386 AT

grossman@star-trek.bbn.com (Martin Grossman) (03/24/91)

I would like to add an old unused IBM XT WD1002S-WX2 with a 85MB drive
to my 386 AT.

The 386 has in it an IDE interface (16bit) with 1 ST1144A (120MB).

I've checked to make sure
a) Theirs enough wait states for accessing OLD 8bit boards
b) The I/O ports 320H-323H are unused in the AT
c) the BIOS EPROM is addresses from C000:8000 upto C000:BFFF and
that area is unused in the AT (THE VGA board EPROM is C000:0000
   upto C000:7FFF

So, will I blow anything up adding this to the system (power supply
has also been checked)? Will it work? Which drive will be #0 and
which will be #1? ******Will their be any conflic because both use
IRQ5? Will I have to switch the MFM to IRQ2 (its switchable)?
