[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] How come... VGA musings

sra@idx.com (03/27/91)

Just wondering?
I have an Intel 302 board (25 Mhz '386 cache 0-wait) and an STB Powergraph
using ROM 1.7 into a CTX 5468 VGA display.
I've noticed that when my son finishes a game (which uses graphics of course)
and I hit the reset button on the PC, sometimes the monitor will actually power
itself down! I have to physically cycle power on the monitor to restore it.
I suspect that the monitor is sensing some input voltage out of range. Any
comments?
Also, using VIDSPEED, the display xfer rate is only about 1220 KB/sec. I'm
told that this is extremely slow for a Tseng 4000 board. As a comparison,
Landmark 0.99 shows machine at about 38 Mhz. How come?

thanks, steve
