[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Compaq DeskPro 286 and 1.44 drive

roybalm@tramp.colorado.edu (ROYBAL MICHAEL) (03/28/91)

at work we have a Compaw DeskPro 286 and we are trying to install
a 3.5" 1.44M floppy drive. We received a connector for it so that we could
use it on our existing controller(5.25".) After we made the connection the
drive appeared to read and write fine, but when we formatted a disk it came
out at 1.2M, the 5.25" size. We then bought a new controller WD1007A-WA2. On
this controller I was still getting the same problems, and this controller is
supposed to support up to 4 drives(any combination of drives <= 1.44M) plus a
hard drive. If you can help us I will be very appreciative.

Does Compaq's BIOS support the larger drives or what? It shouldn't matter
though, becuase the controller has it's own BIOS.

If it helps any we are using a TEAC 1.44M drive. Please reply via E-mail and
I will post a summary if to the net if it is requested by at least three people.

Thanks in advance.
