[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Anyone know how to hook these disks up?

mm79+@andrew.cmu.edu (Mark Madsen) (03/28/91)

I have a PC/AT and the following disks:

Quantum RD52 model Q540
Micropolis RD53 model 1325d

I was told the micropolis is an MFM disk. I don't know what the quantum
disks are and they haven't returned any calls. Anyone know what kind
of controller will work with a quantum? Also, does anyone know what
the drive type is for these disks? Lastly, I have a 300MB priam (ESDI).
Will an MFM controller work with this disk? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Well, you could pick up a PDP-11 with an RQDX-2, or RQDX-3 disk
controller and use the disks :) The RD-52, and RD-53 are DEC labelled
OEM'd drives. They are ST-506 interface, MFM drives. So you should have
no problem using them with a WD, or other MFM controller in a PC or clone.
As far as the priam ESDI drive goes, you'll need an ESDI controller to
use the drive.

	Hope this helps.
