[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] 486 processor clock speed

formula@athena.mit.edu (Ronald R. Duff Jr.) (03/29/91)

	I just bought a 25 MHz 486 IBM clone that has a HOT-486A motherboard
installed. This board is basically a no-name and the manual that comes with it
has a picture of the space shuttle on the front. I've had good luck with these
motherboards in the past in 286's. It has an AMI BIOS which has both CMOS and
XCMOS setup modes. In the XCMOS, the setup of the Opti HiB/486 AT chipset
can be changed. The manual for the motherboard says that the speed of the
processor clock can be changed from 25 MHz to 8.3 MHz and 12.5 MHz. However,
it is not stated HOW the speed can be changed. I'd like to be able to slow
the machine down for certain applications and games that do not like the
speed. Does anyone know how to change the clock speed with this type of board?
If so, please respond to the internet address below. Thanks!
