Has anyone experienced any trouble with Windows 3 Print Manager's error message: The Print Manager cannot write to LPT1. There may be a printer problem. resume the queue when the problem is corrected or cancel the document This occurs whenever I try to print something out through Windows 3. I have checked the connection on LPT1 through using other packages such as VENTURA 2 and Harvard Graphics etc... and they all worked okay when printing. At first I thought that there may be some confliction between my EMS and Windows3 so I have disabled the EMS but still no luck! My system environment is: IBM AT compatible, 4Mb RAM, DOS 4.00 Shadow RAM(enabled), Award BIOS 1985, NEAT chipset, 2Mb EMS (emulated through 82C212 chip), SuperVGA card, harddisk. Norton SI memory report are: DOS reports 640 K-bytes of memory: 130 K-bytes used by DOS and resident programs 510 K-bytes available for application programs A search for active memory finds: 640 K-bytes main memory (at hex 0000-A000) 32 K-bytes display memory (at hex B800-C000) 2,048 K-bytes expanded memory ROM-BIOS Extensions are found at hex paragraghs: C000 CC00

I ran into this problem a while back with a PS/2 Model 55SX. It wouldn't print from run-time Win286, Win386 2.11 or Windows 3. The fix was to set up to print to the dummy port LPT1.OS2, or define another port in Win.ini called LPT1.(anythreeletters) and print to it. The fix came after spending 30 minutes on hold calling MS Tech Support. Wish there was a way to slow down pasting in WinQVT/NET. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iskandar Taib | The only thing worse than Peach ala Internet: NTAIB@AQUA.UCS.INDIANA.EDU | Frog is Frog ala Peach Bitnet: NTAIB@IUBACS ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Try to change the printer cable. Windows is much more picky about all the status lines beeing connected. I had such a problem twice. The first problem was indeed caused by the printer cable - changing to an original HP cable solved the problem. The second problem was caused by a intelligent printer buffer/switcher, which only implemented those lines which are usually used (or didn't implement the Centronics protocol right, - don't know). Sending the buffer to the manufacturer who made a hardware & software fix solved the problem. Wolfgang Strobl #include <std.disclaimer.hpp>
