[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] 720K floppies on old PC

kdq@demott.com (Kevin D. Quitt) (04/13/91)

    The 3.5" 720K drive is plugged in and working, but won't format
to 720K (format /n:9 doesn't work). Any ideas how to go about it?

Have you loaded the dos file called driver.sys in your config.sys file?
This is needed on a pc because the bios on your pc does not support 3.5"
drives as a or b. You need to put the following line in your config.sys
file:
device=c:\dos\driver.sys /d:2
I may be mistaken on the number 2 but I believe the syntax is correct,
don't have my dos manual handy, it's 11 at night. This will make your
3.5" drive d.
Hope this helps.
