A couple of days ago there was news regarding Australia for $499 out of San Francisco. Wellllll....I checked with my travel agent, and while the report is true, that fare is only good until August 31, 1984. You must book and take the trip prior to that date. Since our summer is their winter, is that a deal? Too bad it's not for the December-January timeframe. BTW, the normal fare is about $1500-$2000, so this is a real bargain if the time of year doesn't bother you. ...bob garmise...at&t bell labs, columbus...

If you indeed can get there for $499 up to August 1984 it is a great deal, being an Australia I can testify that the weather back there in winter is nothing like it is here, may/jun would be the best months for southern parts of country, july/august are best for northern parts especially the Great Barrier Reef - other times of year it is just too hot & rainy ... so if you have a hankering to go .. go
