I'm looking for a good and reliable serial card. I don't need anything except one port, but two are alright. I would prefer it to be 16 bit, and have a socketed UART. I don't want a multi-function I/O card, since I've already got serial and parallel interfaces built into the motherboard, and I already have a game port on my Sound Blaster. I would prefer to just change UARTs, but my motherboard design uses VLSI UARTs, and it's just a bit hard to replace that with the 16550AN. Prices around $35 are a plus. Thanks. _______ / \ | O O | Victor Limary <| < |> mimas!vcl@bbx.basis.com | _____ | \ U / "-----"

VLSI as in the company named VLSI? If so, they have several newer parts that contain the functional equivalent of the 16550AN. I don't have my VLSI data book handly so I don't know if the newer parts are pin compatible with the older (16450 based) parts. -- Jerry Gardner, NJ6A Altos Computer Systems UUCP: {sun|pyramid|sco|amdahl|uunet}!altos!jerry 2641 Orchard Parkway Internet: jerry@altos.com San Jose, CA 95134 Help stamp out vi in our lifetime.
