[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] INFO NEEDED: Australian made Trans-Com PCs

timgoh@cs.uq.oz.au (Tim Goh) (04/17/91)

Hi World!

Sorry to all you international readers who aren't from down-under -
as this is mostly relevant only to Aussie readers.

I intend to get a 386DX system sometime soon and haven't got
much time to shop around.

Has anyone heard about the brand : Transcomp? (Aussie made)
Or any recommendations?
How much should I be expected to pay?

The (minimal) configuration I'm looking at:

	- 386DX (prefebaly 33 Mhz)
	- 4 M on-board mem.
	- 32K cache.
	- 80M hard-disk
	- VGA - 1024 * 756(?) * 256.

At this stage, I think most of my applications would be run under DOS.
But I would like to have UN*X of some sort in a partition on my hard-disk.
What version of UN*X should I be looking at? (bearing in mind the cost)

Please also tell me what else I should consider - optional extras etc.
Any recommendations about a modem?

My main question though, is about Transcomp - I've heard that they're
pretty good - so, because I don't have much time to shop around, I'll
appreciate any sort of information this group can provide.

Thank You In Advance.

Tim.
