[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Adding Periphials to a PS2-30/286.

andy@bria.UUCP (Andy Smith/4096) (04/16/91)

Hello fellow Netters:

     I recently purchased an IBM PS2-30/286 w/1MB, 30MB Harddrive, and a 1.44MB
3.5 floppy. I would like to add externally a 1.2MB - 5.25 floppy, a full size
cartrage tape, and another harddisk, and possibly others in the future.

My question is what is the best and most economical way to do this?

I have looked through the Computer Shopper and have seen adds for boxes
for external drives w/ & w/o power supplies. If I purchase one w/o a power
supply, where do I get a power supply? Can I use the same ones advertised for
the PC's themselves? Considering that I would have to buy at least 2 of these
external boxes, would it be better to just buy a PC case? From what I've seen
in the add's, it looks like it would be even money to buy a Full Size 5 bay
Case and use a standard 200W power supply.

Also what would be the best choice for a second harddrive?

Any and all suggestions, hint's, comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your helpful consideration.

I would suggest getting a SCSI card for your 30 286. What you are talking
about is a half baked way to go about adding peripherals. I don't have
the prices in front of me but, I imagine it would be comparable to wht
you are talking about.

I do think you can add that many things to it. There are only 3 slots in
the 30 286 ( I have one too). The only thing you can do is that you may
add a hardcard. Adding an external harddisk will cost you a lot. However,
if you have any idea of adding external hard drive, please let me know. I
want to add some drives too.
