[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Maxtor 1140

donm@pnet07.cts.com (Don Maslin) (04/20/91)

About a week and a half ago, browner@sun.com requested information on the
Maxtor 1140. Since my e-mail bounced, the information is posted herewith as
follows:

The Maxtor 1140 is an ST-506 interface drive. The information following
should give you all of the info you need for setting jumpers. The 1140 has 918
cylinders, 15 heads, and does not require not require compensation on inside
cylinders.

The following should help in making the correct Drive Select on the
MaxTor XT1140 (or any of the XT1000 series) drive(s). There is a 6 pin
header on the circuit that looks something like this:

                      4 C 3 2 C 1
                     -------------
                    | o o o o o o |
                     -------------
                      1 2 3 4 5 6

Note that only one of the schemes for numbering the pins will be used -
not both! Selection is made per the table below:

      BOARD LABEL | 4C32C1 | 123456
   ---------------------------------------------------------
Function | Pin Numbers | Pin Numbers
   ---------------------------------------------------------
      Drive Select 0 | 1.C | 5.6
      Drive Select 1 | 2.C | 4.5
      Drive Select 2 | 3.C | 2.3
      Drive Select 3 | 4.C | 1.2
   ---------------------------------------------------------
