A while back I posted about the failure of my IDE drive controller electronics and the need to replace the ENTIRE $850 drive because of it. With the exception of one response, the e-mail I received agreed with me. In the event that the single dissention was right I'd like to pose the following question. Are all the IDE controller electronics located on the card mounted beneath the drive? If so, is it possible to simply swap these cards allowing me to regain access to my data on the disk? If this is correct, I think it would be of interest to others who experience IDE controller failures... they'd be able to recover the data instead of just tossing the drive and buying a new one! Many thanks for any responses. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ William W.
