[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Consumer info on PC purchasing

duffy@PRC.Unisys.COM (Peg Duffy) (04/18/91)

I have been pricing PC compatibles. I have gotten prices from mail
order houses as well as local stores. I would be interested in
experiences, pro or con, about mail order houses, and PC
brand/model/mfgr's in general. Which ones are good, which to avoid? etc.

Specific mail order houses that I have called for pricing info include:
FastData PC's from FastMicro in Phoenix, AZ
ComputersFirst	2oth Street in NY, NY
	Computer Discount Warehouse, Northbrook, IL
	United Computer Express, NY, NY
Are there any others that you would recommend highly?
for a combination of best price and reliable service

If people will reply just to me, I will attempt to post a summary.
It is quite possible that this information has been collected before,
so I would greatly appreciate any pointers to where or who might
have a copy of such a summary.
I will collect responses for a week or two and then attempt the summary.
If there is already a summary available, I will post it or it's
location along with any new information in replies I get.

You should look at the 9/25/90 PC Magazine survey of PC vendors. Swan came
in first with Dell and Northgate close behind.
