[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] AMD286-16 - hopless chip plus

Gday folks. Little grumble i thought i'd share with you all.

Well, i purchased this excellent 286 PC about 3 months ago (still gotit),
it was a VLSI at compatible. Well, to cut a long story short, this PC was going to replace an ol 8088, which it did, but after receiving 4 boards, because
they all failed, i was amazed at what was causing the problem.

What it did, was that it went rather silly, in the 16MHz mode, but ok in the 8
mode. After a session of swapping boards back and fourth with the supplier, I
decided to change th CPU over with one off our Logic designs, which was a HARRIS
286, an off it went without a problem.

the question: has anyone come across any BAD Americian Micro Devices (AMD) 286's
that were bad to do with speed, as all four that came with these mother boards
were.

Could be just a bad batch. The number printed on them was AMD286CN-16
