Well, I can't say whether the keyboard can handle being washed in
water but, in general, if you must do something like that, at least
use distilled water.

Ordinary tap water is likely to be full of minerals (and gawdknowswhat
else) which will be left on the surfaces when the water itself is
evaporated.  Humidity from the air can be absorbed by these deposits
providing electrolytic conduction paths all over the place.
