Thanks to the half-dozen or so people who sent me e-mail. Two or three people suggested the Sigma Designs 1200x1664 display system, which I've seen and which is quite nice. It costs $1600, though, which I don't think is such a good deal. And it needs special software drivers. One mentioned the 900x1152 monitor that IME used to advertise in Computer Shopper for $399. This is more interesting and I've been tempted to look into it further. It doesn't show up in the IME ad any more, but there still might be some around. Someone in Germany suggested an "Eizo 5050", which I've never heard of. Anyone know what this is? One person pointed out that old Sun 3/50 workstations (no longer supported by Sun) are selling used for around $750. These include a fairly nice 19" monitor of around 900x1100, atop a 68020 workstation with 4m ram, scsi and ethernet. Such a box could be set up as a nice X terminal, with enough software hacking. I've been told that buying such a box also gets you a SunOS binary license which both makes setting up the X server easier, and gives you a secondary Unix system (but you must run NFS and tie up lots of disk space on your "real" system). I may look into this further too. I see on p.305 of the April 1991 Computer Shopper that Cad and Graphics in San Francisco (1-800-288-1611) sells a "Sampo 20 inch dual-page Office-pro II monitor with Cornerstone PC 1280 card" for $995. This allegedly has 1280x960 resolution, Hercules emulation mode, and drivers for various DOS programs. I may go look at one though that resolution sounds low for a two page display. Thanks again to all who responded.
