Well, I must say, Norton Utilities much surpassed my expectations today. for the last week or so, I had been looking for my 3.5" disk that had all my important personal files on, but I coulndn't find it anywhere. Well, last night I get this call from my girlfriend who says she has good news and bad news. The good news is that she found my disk, the bad news was how she found it. Basically she had done laundry and the disk was in my shorts pocket. She found it after she had sent it through the wash and dry cycle. Needless to say I was horrified, all of my spreadsheets, word processing files, old programs, everything was on that disk(it was an HD disk). Well I went over there this morning and picked it up, it didn't look to bad, spoltches of residue here and there, but that was it. So I brought it back to my IIci and booted up Norton Utilities and proceeded to try to recover anything that I could. I put it in and was greeted by a << Damaged Disk >> error. Oh well, I thought I'd at least try. But then it proceeded to the recover window and after 3-4 minutes had a list of almost 400 files for me to recover. About half were worthless files with invalid names, but the other half were my files! All of them said "Unknown" in the recoverability column, but they all recovered nicely! And this is with system 7.0fc2 which is suppossedly incompatable with Norton. I must say I'm impressed. Steve hasses@prism.cs.orst.edu
