I assume "far from being helpful" means that IBM told you they don't support that drive in anything other than the PS/2 products it was meant to be in. The drive you have is an ESDI drive... sort of. It's supposedly been modified some way to "tweak" the performance a bit. I've heard the disk partitioning software by OnTrack systems can take one of these ESDI PS/2-type drives and use them on a "standard" ESDI controller. Just a note: IBM stopped making these drives a while ago, and dropped ESDI totally in favor of some really mean & nasty performing SCSI controllers. - Darius ========================================================================= BITNET: U39648@UICVM | "I'd rather laugh with the sinners Internet: u39648@uicvm.uic.edu | than cry with the saints, ====================================| the sinners are much more fun, "Don't set fire to strangers." | and only the good die young." - Mr. Zarniwoop | - Billy Joel

I have a ps/2 70 Meg hard drive that i would like to put in my 386 AT computer. The only problem is i can't seem to find anyone who knows how many heads/cyc it has. IBM is far from being helpful. Any info would be appreciated. It is a "Type: 0667" thanks tim tim@yenta.alb.nm.us

Yes, fit is a ESDI, but i can't reformat it without knowing how many heads and cyclendars it has. From what i have heard, is that when PS/2 drives are shipped out fro the factory, they are formatted in some "special" way and will not work on a "regular" ISA type machine. From what i understand i can reformat this drive so that it is again "normal", but it would not be able to work in a PS/2 again after doing this. In any event, nobody seems to know antything about this kind of stuff, including IBM - at least the people if of stuff, including IBM - atleast the people i have talked to -- Everyone pleads ignorance. tim
