[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Gateway Crystal Scan 1024NI

spee@jrdc.go.jp (04/16/91)

I would like to here whether the new Gateway Crystal Scan 1024NI
monitor is good or whether I should buy another one. If so, which
monitor would be good?

Thanks in advance, Paul Spee (spee@jrdc.go.jp)

I have had a chance to see it right next to a Sony 1304 HG. There is no
reason to buy the Sony. The Gateway is actually an updated OEM version
of the MAG Computronic that won last years PC Magazine review. It is
sharp and flicker free. In 1024x768 I actually felt as if text under
icons in windows was more readable than on the Sony, on which this text
was extremely fine. For fine lines in Autocad, the Sony might be more
suited.

I currently own the Crystal Scan 1024ni, along with a Gateway 386/25c.
I am very happy with my system, but the only problem is the monitor is
not FCC class B rated (or it wasn't when I bought mine over a year ago).
This means that it interferes with TV and some other electronic devices.
You should call them and check, if you do get one make sure it is
labeled FCC class B.

I have to disagree. I too have seen the Gateway Crystal Scan 1024NI and
the Sony 1304. I find the Sony slightly better at 640x480, but
substantially better at 800x600 and 1024x768. In my opinion, the Sony is
well worth the extra few hundred dollars.
