The 1123 is the 1124's replacement, or so I've heard. The 1124 is pretty fast, very good quality, but a little noisy. The manual is helpful, but if someone knows what they're doing, they can really mess you up! (another story). I don't know about the NEC. Recommendation: try them all out. I am really happy with my Citizen GSX-140, 24 pin, Emulates PRO-Printer and Epson LQ-2500?. Medium duty tractor ( push or pull ) in a good price range for PC printer. Mem and color upgrades and other hardware. Found in many stores in So. Cal. so it must not be too weird.
