[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] ESDI HD problem

rudy@cbnewsj.att.com (avram.r.vener) (05/05/91)

I got a problem. Recently one of my logical drives (drive D:) on my 150 Meg
ESDI hard disk went 'bad'. The symptoms are as follows:

1) Norton DT will not run on logical drive d: reports "Directory not Found"

2) Norton NDD reports physical damage to system sector and ONE FAT corrupted.
Also reports that my drive is RLL type and connot be low level formated. This
happened whin I instructed NDD to correct the problem.

3) Drive D: still seems to be usable. That is I can access it, write to it,
read from it, create and remove files and so forth. Nonetheless I have
backed it up, removed every file and tried the above Norton processes.
Same result.

I am not really anxious to do a low level format over the whole 150 meg
drive. Is there a software package that would let me do this over only
the affected sectors?

Please send email as I am not a regular subscriber to this echo.

Thanks.
