First off, thanks to all who sent me their impressions of the 287 processor that AMD is currently offering for $99. I don't think I received one negative response. Aynway, I finally got the chip (a day late). Installation took about five minutes (you've never seen a PC being taken apart so fast!! 8-) ). I ran the sample s/w that came with the chip and was pretty impressed. The real test, at least for me, was to work with Generic Cadd level/2. I loaded in a file which was ~180K. It consistsed of eight 8 1/5 x 11 inch pages of cabinet drawings. Pretty detailed stuff as far as shop drawings go. Without the processor, my system (a 20Mhz 286 clone w/ 16 bit VGA) took 13 seconds to redraw the entire drawing. With the 287, the time was cut down to three seconds!! I think it's needless to say that I had a grin from ear to ear! If anyone else has an application which can take advantage of a co-processor, I strongly suggest that you invest $100. You won't regret it. -- Glenn Pitcher UUCP: {crash, ucsd}!edpmgt!gpitcher Programmer/Analyst & hp-sdd!teamnet!gpitcher Unix Guru in training INTERNET: gpitcher@edpmgt.cts.com EDP Management, Inc. * Proud member of Team.Net * =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
