looking for an unusual place to ski (alpine) ? A ski slope located just outside St. John's, Newfoundland offers the hardy of soul a view of the Atlantic Ocean as they nimbly dodge bare spots on it's understandably patchy slopes. Rumored to be the only such (registered) ski slope in North America offering such a fascinating combination of sensations and sights, it presents unique opportunities. For those so inclined, a five minute walk will take you down to the ocean where you can sit and watch the magnificent blue icebergs as they glide slowly past the coast. A Marine Lab, run by the Memorial University of Newfoundland is also located here and offers tours of it's facil- ities. Elevation is not dramatic, as might be expected! However the looks of disbelief (and pity) of friends gathered around the fire in your favorite ski lodge make it a worthwhile adventure. Seafood, unfortunately is not offered by the simple canteen located in the slope's main lodge. ray {allegra,ihnp4,utcsrgv}!garfield!ray2
