I want to use my old PC-XT clone as a terminal. Since the monitor that I was using has been converted into a TV, I bought a used monochrome monitor and a hurcules compatible monochrome graphics card. So I pulled out my old Hercules CGA card, put in the mono card and turned on the computer. Well nothing came out on the monitor (not even the bios copyright) and the computer didn't boot. Well then I tried putting the CGA card back in. This got the computer to boot but no output went to the monochrome monitor. So I did a "mode mono" and there was the beloved "C>" prompt. But most of my applications responeded with not enough memory errors. Apparently by having both graphic cards, I deactivated the memory on the AST card. I tried running nortons SI, but it always ran into parity erros at address ???? (it gave "????" as the address). I just want to be able to use the momochrome monitor in text mode. My guess is that I have to set the dip switches on the mother board to tell the computer that I have a monochrome monitor, and not a CGA. The problem is I never got the documentation which says how to set the dip switches. I believe the dip switch settings are the same that are on a PC/XT so if someone would mail me a listing of what these switches mean, it would be much appreciated. Or if you have some other suggestions on what to do, I would like those as well. Thanks for your help, Sandy -- Sandy Spinrad Internet: spinrad@cornu.ucsb.edu UUNET: uunet!hub.ucsb.edu!spinrad@cornu
