I need help on installing aother hard drive in to my pc. I know just enough about computers to make myself dangerous I think. So I really need help form you netters that really know computers. He goes. Presently I have a KAYPRO PC-10 computer. XT class I believe, since I recently ran a program to check out the hard drive that classified it a XT, not AT as I had thought (bought this from a friend, and that's what I though he said). Has 640K Ram, 20 Meg ST-225 MFM hard drive, 2 360K Floppy drives, Dual Speed (4.77 mHz/ 8.0 Mhz) switchable Processor, MS-DOS 3.2. 8087-2 Math coprocessor, EGA monitor. The question pertains to adding a ST-251-1 Hard drive to my system. Power supply ia MOdel PSA-1354IS PHIhong 115v/2.8A. It has an extra cable for power supply (a total of 4). The Hard drive presently is attached to a card WD1002A-WX1. half-card It has a 34-pin connector going to hard drive (J1) a 20-pin connector going to hard drive (J2) and an open 20-pin connector (J3) Hard drive and disk drive connected by cable to a full board that my mouse and printer are attached to at the back of the PC. That's the story. If I just bought the Hard Drive, what else would I need in order to connect all the correct peices together? How should they be connected? How do I partition the new 40 Meg hard drive? Do I need to buy another controller card? Will my power supply handle the new hard drive? You help will be greatly appreciated! Please e-mail me since I will be trying to get the hard drive as soon as possible. Thanks Vernon McFarland mcfarlan@author.ecn.purdue.edu or mcfarlan@ecn.purdue.edu
